Sadly, Lucy’s 51 is about done. Fritz Coleman MC’ed bass legend Phil Chen’s show with many special guests. Fritz is a certified bad ass. Close to 3 years ago, he opened the show with an excellent comedy routine at a Ray Manzarek (RIP) concert in Thousand Oaks, CA. I always liked Fritz on the new, but he was my favorite after his hilarious routine.
Fritz talked about his old TV show (IT’S FRTIZ!), where Phil was the bass player, Laurence Juber was the guitar player and Bruce Gary was the drummer.
Joined by Brian Tichy, Brent Woods and Rowan Robertson (formerly of DIO and current Billy Ray Cyrus and DC-4 guitarist), the music started with Freeway Jam by Jeff Beck (Phil was the bassist on that)
They were also joined by Lita Ford, Cherie Currie and Chas West, who belted out some Rod Stewart tunes (also originally played by Phil).
Robby Krieger joined in and rocked some songs from The Doors with excellent playing by Kit Potamkin from Wild Child on keyboard and James LoMenzo did some harmonica and bass as well. Robby sang some tunes by himself and then had a few guest vocalists join in. The evening ended with some Led Zeppelin songs (and a Black Sabbath tune – perhaps more) by The Moby Dicks (West, LoMenzo, Woods and Tichy).
BYE BYE, Lucy’s 51.
